A conference was organized on Monday June 16, 2025 in Oujda, on the occasion of International Family Remittances Day (IFRD), at the initiative of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Bank Al-Maghrib and the European Union Delegation in Morocco.
Under the theme “Remittances: A financial flow for development”, this event is an opportunity to share experiences and explore various initiatives aimed at maximizing the impact of remittances on community development.
The conference also highlighted the crucial contribution of Moroccans living abroad (MREs) to poverty reduction, local economic growth and a more sustainable long-term future.
Participants discussed ways to raise awareness of productive savings, investment opportunities, the promotion and use of digital tools, and the strengthening of multi-stakeholder partnerships, with the aim of reducing transfer costs to less than 3% by 2030.
Remittances are a safety net for millions of rural families, and Morocco has set an example by integrating these flows into its development strategies, said the speakers, asserting that the families benefiting from these remittances are not passive recipients but genuine actors in development.
The meeting was attended by the General Secretary for Regional Affairs of the Wilaya de l'Oriental, representatives of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, IFAD and the EU Delegation in Morocco, as well as other personalities.
